The
Blue Tulip Gallery is owned by Deborah James and opened in May 2003. It is a
commercial gallery, providing a selection of contemporary photographic and fine
art prints for homes, restaurants, offices, bars, and hotels.
The photographic collection revolves around an exclusive
dealership of the Getty Archive, which is probably the world’s greatest
image collection. This archive contains some 250,000 accessible images which
include many of the most iconic images of our time… screen greats like
Marylyn Monroe, Bridget Bardot and Michael Caine… historic images like
the moment when a triumphant Bobby Moore held high the World Cup in 1966 - the
list goes on and on. All the prints are traditionally hand made to archival
standards and are in limited edition. Provide a brief and we will carry out a
tailored search. There are plans for a series of special exhibitions, which
will include Getty spectaculars for which again exclusive rights have been
negotiated.
A
number of individual photographers are shown, including David Clarke who is
Head of Photography at the Tate Gallery. As well as showing his own work, he
will be using his 30 years’ experience in fine art photography working
alongside Deborah, advising on and sourcing the collection. In addition, there
will be internationally known photographers such as the still life specialist
Seamus Ryan and the portrait photographer Sheila Rock, some of whose works
feature in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.
On the fine art print side, artists will include Sir Terry
Frost, whose work is collected by the world’s most important museums and
galleries including the Tate, where there has been a recent retrospective
exhibition of his work. Anita Klein’s humourous and intimate etchings of
her family life and Brenda Hartill’s organic work inspired by Andalucia
add to the rich diversity of the Blue Tulip Gallery.
Deborah says ‘Some people feel instinctively unsure
about having modern art or photography on their walls but it is our aim to show
that there is accessible high quality contemporary work available which can be
stylish and enjoyable and an ideal addition to any home or business.’
As well the images on display, the Blue Tulip Gallery has access to extensive
collections of fine art print and photography (including the Getty Archive) and
provides an ordering service for individual requests.
